I know, it is possible to get online hosting with so called 'unlimited resources' for $5.95 a month or so. But if you actually use those resources you'll find they are severely limited, eg, only 10 persons at a time can log onto your forums or SQL database functions, and very slow loading times (up to a minute to reload a page or to make a forum post).
This is the reality of cheap shared hosting. Imagine if you had 100 or more people using your home computer simultaneously, chewing up your ram and resources and internet connection....what would happen to your speed and useability. We tried this 'cheap solution' for awhile and found it to be totally unworkable, given the thousands of people currently using Astraldynamics resources. A lot o people just gave up and walked away. So, we are currently using a high speed VPS (Virtual Private Server) with www.ultrahosting.com which is pretty good, but we will soon need to upgrade to a dedicated server with managed hosting. People are coming back and using the facilities, and there will come a point where we'll experience load problems again. So we are planning ahead.
FYI... the current cost breakdown for the Astraldynamics website and online services follows...
Regular Monthly Costs:
$65.oo per month for VPS
$70.oo per month for local ISP
$400.oo per month for admin / development services
Total: $535.oo
Recent Extra Costs:
Shared hosting and domain costs $300.oo
Creation of Joomla clone $1000.oo
Deposit for new website development $2000.oo
Total: $3300.oo
Also, please keep in mind that the monthly admin and development costs currently being paid, of $400.oo are a token payment only. In the real world I would need to pay $1000.oo per month just for the regular maintenance work, and a whole lot more for the development work on the new concept community website and resources.

Some recent history:
The Joomla clone website we are currently using involved approximately 60 hours work for our webmaster, Alex had to write a custom script to convert the original Astraldynamics website from custom Windows based format to the more open and flexible Joomla Linux format. This was done as an interim measure, as given the huge amount of content, and that we had to move the website from our old server fairly quickly (it was closing down) we decided this to be the best interim measure.
Okay, we could have got a private managed custom server for around $250.oo per month and a whole lot of work and expense and continued as we were, but we needed to redevelop the whole website concept (it was long overdue) and so we decided the Joomla clone option to be the best and most cost effective solution, with minimal downtime and inconvenience to users. The current clone is still a bit buggy, but the essentials work and its making for a good management sandbox training site, for when we shift to the new concept website.

The new concept community website:
The current website (the Joomla clone we are now using) will soon be replaced with a world-class community suite, including extensive blogging, podcasting, audio and video, and interactive member page facilities that will be something like 'MySpace'.
The more money we raise, the faster these new facilities will be constructed.
Below is a sample of the new theme being developed for Astral Dynamics. This will make the extensive information contained by Astral Dynamics much more accessible, using multiple sub templates. The end result will include extensive revision of current Astraldynamics content to increase effectiveness and useability. The new suite will seamlessly integrate forums, blog, members pages, products, and the Hall of Learning online school. We are even planning an internet radio station.....
On top of all that, Robert Bruce travels extensively, providing many low cost workshops and free consultations, and we need all the help we can get to develop these new online resources. The only way this will work, to develop a truly world class spiritual community and online school, is through a community effort. And when its all built and working, we will be looking for people to help us manage and keep the new sites updated.
Further down the track, we also plan to found physical institutes, in both the Southern and Northern hemispheres, to provide central hubs for spiritual research and teaching and healing. This will include a new approach to the study of consciousness, remapping the human energy body, more effective OBE methods and devices, and more effective methods and devices to help with negative energy problems. Our long term goals are to help the evolution of human consciousness, and to create a better world for us all to share.
